Abstract

Folklore as the cultural wealth of the Indonesian nation is a source of creativity for artists. After the author explores folklore and the reality of society, then elaborates on his knowledge and experience, a drama script is created that deserves to be appreciated. Folklore is rewritten according to the context, dynamics, and spirit of the era. Disclosure of the creative process and the adaptation process is important to research in order to see the stages and methods that the author goes through as a model for the process of adapting folklore into drama that can be effectively appreciated by a wide audience. As objects, the writer chose two adaptation scripts from the folklore of Malin Kundang. Qualitative research method with analytical descriptive approach is used to analyze the creative process of script creation, as well as dramatic (intrinsic) elements, in order to unravel the adaptation process carried out by the author. The analysis was conducted to see social-psychological phenomena (extrinsic) related to the reality of the referred community. The results of this study can be used as a model for creating new drama scripts originating from ethnic folklore in the archipelago, as well as the actual social and psychological realities of the community groups that own the folklore. This is beneficial for scientific development in the field of theater and literature, as well as being a lecture material in the subjects of Folklore, Play Writing, Radio Drama, Applied Theatre, Creative Story Writing, Theater Sociology, and Theater Psychology.
