Abstract
The participants of this English training are the children of government employees of ISI Surakarta who have poor mastery of English. It is difficult for them to improve their competence of English at school. Due to that, this training aims at teaching basic English hoping that the participants will have strong competence of basic English so that they can develop their competence. The method used in this training lays stress on the demonstration method as well as the lecture method. The demonstration method is used because of the influence of the theory of language acquisition, namely, the habit-formation theory. The theory says that the language acquisition is based on the view that language is behaviour results from habits that are formed by practice and repetition. Based on the theory, this training puts more emphasis on conversation than grammar.
