abstract: The research "Characteristics of Garap Karawitan Pakeliran Tradition of Surakarta Style" seeks to dissect what is called garap karawit entitled an with the function / use of karawitan which is a supporter of wayang performances. Different serving scales give rise to different characteristics. Traditions are pinned so that the differences with those that have developed are at the same time a form of conservation of working on traditions in pakliran karawitan. The purpose of this research is to develop a concept of garap karawitan in the context of the Surakarta style tradition of garap karawitan used in wayang kulit performances. The method used in this research is descriptive analytic in which the output is scientific articles in journal writing format. To dissect it, this paper uses a working approach, while related to research methods, this research is an analytical descriptive study that also relies on an emic approach, considering that the emic (which is very phenomenological) way of working is one way of assembling research in accordance with the paradigm. owner community. This is done in order to minimize the distortion of research results which are sometimes far from the daily facts of the writers. The results of this research are expected to be able to become fragments of karawitanology, from which, this research is also useful both in theory and practice. There are two outcomes that are expected to be born from this research; the first is the report on the results of the research, the second is an academic manuscript (journal) which will later be published in art and culture journals.
