abstract: Naskah ini mengkaji dinamika Gong Kebyar sebagai bentuk inovasi dalam tradisi gamelan Bali yang telah mengalami perluasan makna, penyebaran luas, dan penguatan identitas budaya. Melalui pendekatan teoretis tentang legasi dan viralitas, penulis menguraikan bagaimana Gong Kebyar tidak hanya lahir dari transformasi sosial-politik Bali pascakolonial, tetapi juga berkembang menjadi simbol vital dari daya adaptasi budaya. Legasi Gong Kebyar dipahami sebagai pengaruh berkelanjutan dari warisan musikal sebelumnya seperti Gong Gede dan Semar Pagulingan, serta konteks komunal banjar yang menjadi wahana transmisi nilai budaya. Sementara itu, viralitasnya dijelaskan melalui teori diffusion of innovation, tipping point, dan contagious yang menyoroti peran simbolisme musikal, performativitas, serta daya pikat emosional dan sosial dalam menjangkau audiens lintas generasi. Dengan memadukan ketegangan antara inovasi dan akar tradisi, karya ini menegaskan bahwa Gong Kebyar adalah model unggul bagaimana seni tradisi dapat tetap relevan, dinamis, dan mendunia tanpa kehilangan otentisitasnya. Makalah ini juga menyoroti peran penting aktor-aktor kultural dan institusi dalam menjaga kesinambungan serta daya hidup inovasi tradisional di tengah arus globalisasi budaya.
