Abstract

This article presents the outcomes of a study centered on the primary concern of how the reconstruction process of the Selodang Mayang dance at Amantubillah Palace unfolds. The Selodang Mayang dance, a traditional welcome dance originating from the Royal Palace of Amantubillah in Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan Province, is the subject of this research. The objective of the study was to comprehensively elucidate the various stages involved in reviving the Selodang Mayang dance through its reconstruction process. The reconstituted Selodang Mayang dance encompasses aspects such as 1) Choreography, 2) Musical Arrangements, 3) Attire and Makeup, 4) Props, and 5) Floor Designs. Employing a qualitative approach with an emphasis on interaction analysis, this research uncovered a sequence of movements in the Selodang Mayang dance, characterized by graceful strides (lenggang) and coordinated arm movements synchronized with the accompanying music's rhythm. These movements adhere to precise guidelines from the palace, encompassing motifs like elegance in footwork, arms remaining below a 45-degree angle, maintaining a pleasant facial expression, avoiding spins, never turning one's back to guests, controlling leg position, and aligning movements with the dance's lyrics. Furthermore, the study also delves into the process carried out by the Selodang Mayang dance reconstruction team, dedicated to safeguarding this classical dance form. The research's objective was to comprehend, analyze, and safeguard the cultural heritage of Mempawah Regency, ensuring the sustained existence and flourishing of the Selodang Mayang dance within both the palace and the local community.
