Abstract

ABSTRACK Badhut Sinampurna ruwatan ceremony is one of the traditional ceremonies that developed in Ploso Village, Tegalombo Disctrict, Pacitan Regency. Ruwatan is a ritual in Java which aims to release from sukerta or sangkala which means to get rid of all curses on humans. This research aims to determine the social disharmony that occurred in Ploso Village, the form of social drama in the Badhut Sinampurna ruwatan ceremony, and how the social implications that happened after the Badhut Sinampurna ruwatan ceremony was held. The theory used to study the ruwatan ceremony of Badhut Sinampurna is Victor W. Turner’s social drama theory. This theory consists of four phases: breach, crisis, redressive, and reintegration. The method used for the research “Social Drama in the Badhut Sinampurna Ruwatan Ceremony in Ploso Village, Tegalombo District, Pacitan Regency” is descriptive analysis method. Disharmony in Ploso Village is caused by several factors, i.e., mental stress due to the primitive environment, poverty, and the geographical location of Ploso Village which is in the mountains. These disharmony factors are related to the myth of the belief of Ploso villagers that the disaster that happened was caused by the existence of Jajar Kala. The socio-cultural phenomenon in Ploso Village are same to the stages of Victor W. Turner’s theory of social drama. The ruwatan ceremony of Badhut Sinampurna also has the impact of social change which causes social implications. The social implications of the Badhut Sinampurna ruwatan ceremony can be seen from the aspects of agriculture, security, and inner peace of the Ploso villagers.
