Abstract

This research reveals about cultivating gembyang kempyung in gendèran piece the Surakarta style. The problems discussed are related to the notion of gembyang kempyung, ricikan which has a gembyang kempyung, things to consider working on gembyang kempyung in gendèran, and the factors that influence the difference in interpretation by bothgendèr academic and natural. Data obtained through observation of performances, interviews, and literature study. The method used is a qualitative method that emphasizes descriptive analytic. Problems work on gembyang kempyung in the gendèran explored gending style of Surakarta isusing the Supanggah approach of thinking about the elements of cultivating and the things that influence the formation of a pengrawit, and the circle theory kempyung by Martopangrawit regarding the pathet. The results of this study indicate that it is in progress gembyang and kempyung require several considerations, among others; the grooves of the balungan gending, bend die, pathet, and tone direction. In practice there are differences in the interpretation of gembyang kempyung by gendèr natural and academic. The occurrence of these differences in interpretation is due to several things, namely, capital bothgendèr, consideration of working, continuity of work, stability of feeling of each bothgendèr, and the existence of freedom of interpretation in musicals.
