Abstract

This Community Dedication Program aims the young generation, namely primary school age and the teenagers through playing gamelan music. There is an expectation that through activity in the gamelan music, will be formed positive attitudes which are accepted as humanity values. Those values are, togetherness, friendliness, tolerance, maturity, diligent, etc. It is believed that by keeping those values surely, it means humanly positive characters have been formed. Besides as an effort in building humanly values, this Community Dedication Program may also be seen as implementation of “ Sukoharjo Makmur “ slogan. The substance of the slogan ‘makmur” in a broader meaning, it embraces a prosperity of outer and inner human, it is settle down of Social, economy, and general culture condition. The activity of this Community Dedication Program tries to take in role to increase of cultural sector, namely the gamelan music side. The condition of life of the gamelan music in the community has not been proud, therefore it needs some efforts to increasing continuously in order to become much better. There are two locations aim of this Community Dedication Program, namely the SDN Sugihan I and the group of Marsudi Budaya, which are both located in Bendosari district, Sukoharjo Regency. All of the students of Sugihan I are beginners, therefore the process of teaching has been started from the basic. But later on SDN Sugihan I was asked to participate in a region of Sukoharjo competition. It means they have to learn some more difficult pieces. How difficult it is, we have to handle and to do it, even though the Community Dedication Program officialy has finished. The teaching program in the Marsudi Budaya group focuses in increasing of the musical quality, namely ciblon and merong drumming, bonang inter locking and its flowerings, and the proper tuning of the vocalists. Besides that we have form two rebab players and one gender barung player. Through a short teaching program, they are able to play rebab and gender barung on beginner grade. The teaching process in SDN Sugihan No. 01 we often applied drill method, another methods are participative and demonstration. In order to reach maximum result, we split the vocal group and musical group during the practice session, then after mid session both group practice together. This strategy is felt to be effective and efficient, it means from the result side is thought to be proudly. We also applied this strategy for Marsudi Budaya group, namely they learn rebab, gender barung, and vocal separately, then after mid session they play together. The result practically can be felt, for SDN Sugihan No.01, they are able to demonstrate lancaran Suwe Ora Jamu, Gugurgunung, dan Sukoharjo Makmur. In connection with competition pieces, there is not appearance good result, but recent time when this report is written down we still continue blowing as much as possible. The result for Marsudi Budaya especially appearance in forming rebab and gender barung players. The drum player becomes better for his drum touching, and he knows drum pattern for merong form. Musical quality for all instruments generally are also increased.
