Abstract
The study entitled "Studies of character in anthropomorphic relief/sculpture at the Indonesia enshrinement " intended to determine the structure of the character and value of the symbolic in anthropomorphic statue/relief objects at temples in Indonesia. This research was a qualitative research by using descriptive method. The selection of the research object used purposive sampling technique. Sources of data were in the form of data artefactual and textual data. Extracting data used observation, documentation, and interviews methods, it was supported by instruments such as observation sheets and mechanical devices (photo-video camera, MP3 recorder/player). The analysis process was performed in three interrelated phases, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. In analyzing the sculpture and relief figures on data collection, the researchers focused on the analysis of iconographic and the proportion of anthropomorphic. The results of this study concluded that a) the depiction of the anthropomorphic figures of Garuda, Ganesha, and Kinari both in sculpture and reliefs can not be separated from the rest of the background story, especially ‘kakawin’ Adiparwa, Smaradahana and Ramayana, b) Visualization anthropomorphic in Garuda dan Ganesha sculpture/relief was very good, and able to represent the divine character, courage, and bravery which are supported by compatibility body attributes or accessories such as crown/diadem, ‘kelat bahu’, bracelet, ‘uncal’, belts, and ‘upawita’; c) A combination of anthropomorphic raises new characters or symbols as figure 'between', half-deity, has the ability to be in two worlds (the world above and the world below). From the results of this study are expected to be a reference of anthropomorphic characters based on Indonesian cultural artefacts as the base for the character and plot development for Indonesian animated cartoon.
